Find: LUSH Massage Bar

If you've ever traveled and attempted to not check a bag and carry-on instead, you know what a pain it is to fit all of your make-up and liquids into the quart-sized bag (the mini bag from hell) they allow. The TSA clearly doesn't understand women, otherwise they'd realize how unfair this rule really is.

I'm always on the lookout for items that I can carry on that are solids, not liquids, so as to avoid taking up precious space in my bag. So far my only successful sub has been switching from liquid facewash to the Neutrogena Facial Bar.  I've tried solid perfumes with no success, as well as dry shampoo, which works in a pinch but won't keep your hair clean for too long.

Over the weekend I made a fantastic discovery. If lotion is one of the things that you include in your carry-on beauty kit, I highly recommend trying the LUSH Body Bar. It's a fantastic substitute for liquid lotion, and it's a solid bar, so no squeezing it into the ridiculosly small Ziploc baggie. I bought one over the summer at the LUSH event at Blogher '09, and hadn't realized the full potential of the bar, since it's called a Massage Bar. In actuality, you can use it to moisturize your skin from head to toe.

A hot look for winter '09 is the off-white sleeveless turtleneck dress with black tights and black boots. If you're feeling adventurous, add a matching off-white slouchy knit cap. 3,2,1 Happy New Year! All bars ring in the New Year with their energetic and enthusiastic mix of beers, mixed drinks and midnight toasts. Stop by Southgate House for their annual musical bash, hit any of the bars in Mt. Adams or do one-stop-hopping downtown. Take your pick of the local establishments and dress for the merriment in casual chic. Dark denim is a must, and if you can stand the cold, add your best strappy heels. Bustiers, as well anything in a lamé, with sequins or beads or with unexpected sexy straps pairs perfectly with jeans and classes up a casual look without veering into over-dressed territory. Finally, for those who prefer to watch the ball drop at midnight from the comfort of their own homes, there are endless options. If it's a strictly family affair, spring for cozy PJs like Nick and Nora for Target, with their colorful, dreamy designs made of the softest fleece.
